Crowns & Bridges in Sunnyvale, CA

Crowns & Bridges in Sunnyvale, CA

Crowns and bridges are two of the most prominently used dental restorations. Crowns are widely used to restore damaged, chipped, misshapen, weak, or worn out teeth. They are made from dental-grade porcelain, as it can be customized to a great extent and offers excellent durability. Bridges are fabricated from the same material and are used to replace missing teeth. They do not require surgery to be placed in position and are held by crowns on either side.

Advantages of dental crowns?

  • Crowns are highly durable oral restorations. With regular usage, their rate of wear is close to negligible.
  • They are quite versatile, as dentists can use them for several types of restorations.
  • They hold a severely damaged or worn out tooth intact, which helps to save the natural teeth from being extracted.
  • Since they are made from dental-grade material, they do a great job of staying under disguise. This keeps them from being detected easily.
  • The procedure for fabricating crowns is quite simple. Also, a major proportion of the natural tissues of the teeth are retained during the preparation phase.

Why should you choose bridges?

  • Bridges are the simplest means to restore missing teeth. They do not require surgery to be bonded in place, as crowns hold them on either side.
  • Bridges restore oral functionality as they enable the patient to bite and chew food as before. Also, they fill the gap entirely, which restores your phonetics as well.
  • Since they are shaped exactly like natural teeth, they are indistinguishable.
  • They prevent the drifting of the adjoining teeth from their orthodontically right positions by filling the gap.
  • They are durable and long-lasting.

How are crowns and bridges placed?

Crowns and bridges are custom-fabricated restorations. When you visit us for the initial consultation, a thorough diagnosis will be conducted to determine whether or not bridges would be the apt solution. Depending on your candidacy, the Sunnyvale dentist will prepare you for the digital mold. The dentist removes a thin layer of enamel to accommodate the restoration, after which we use a digital scanning device to create a highly-detailed impression.

The impression will be shared to a dental laboratory where the crown or bridge will be fabricated. This usually takes a few days, after which we will inform you and schedule a second appointment to bond the restoration. The teeth will be cleaned thoroughly, and an etching solution will be applied to them to roughen their surface. This helps the restoration adhere firmly to the teeth. We use photosensitive dental adhesives for the bonding process, which will be hardened using a curing light. A bite test will be taken, and the restoration will be polished to make it look natural.
